Pet Grooming

Clean coat, happy pet, happier home.

Professional grooming isn't just about making your pet look good — though they will. It's a critical part of skin health, parasite prevention, and early disease detection. Matted coats can hide skin infections. Overgrown nails can affect posture and joint health. Dirty ears breed bacteria and yeast infections.

Dog being groomed at The Animal Doctor

Our grooming team handles dogs and cats of all breeds and temperaments — from a fidgety Chihuahua to a 50 kg Boerboel who's never had a bath. We work patiently and gently, using low-stress handling techniques that keep your pet calm throughout the session.

Every grooming visit includes a quick health check by our groomer, who is trained to spot skin irritations, ear infections, dental problems, lumps, ticks, and suspicious lesions. Anything unusual is flagged directly to our veterinary team — giving you an extra layer of preventive care built into a service your pet already needs.

We stock veterinary-grade shampoos for sensitive skin, medicated washes for fungal and bacterial conditions, and hypoallergenic products for pets with known allergies. No harsh chemicals, no perfumes that irritate.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I have my pet groomed?
Most dogs benefit from professional grooming every 4–8 weeks depending on breed and coat type. Short-coated breeds can go longer; long-coated breeds like Shih Tzus and Poodles need more frequent sessions. Cats typically need grooming every 8–12 weeks.
My dog hates baths — can you still groom them?
Absolutely. Our team specialises in low-stress handling. We go at your pet's pace, use calming techniques, and take breaks when needed. Most nervous pets settle down significantly after the first visit.
Can you groom cats?
Yes. We groom cats of all breeds — from Persian lion cuts to basic bath-and-brush sessions. Cat grooming requires specific handling skills that our team is trained in.
Do you use flea/tick shampoo during grooming?
We can, but we generally recommend topical or oral preventatives for longer-lasting protection. If your pet has an active infestation, we'll use a medicated wash and coordinate with the vet for a proper treatment plan.
How long does a full groom take?
Allow 2–3 hours for a full groom (bath, dry, trim, nails, ears, glands). Simple bath-and-brush sessions take about 1–1.5 hours. Large or matted coats may take longer.
