Wellness Exams

Prevention is always better than cure.

A comprehensive wellness exam is the single most important thing you can do for your pet's health. Think of it as a full MOT — a nose-to-tail physical assessment that catches problems before they become painful, expensive, or life-threatening.

During every wellness visit, our veterinarians check your pet's eyes, ears, teeth, skin, coat, heart, lungs, abdomen, joints, lymph nodes, and body condition. We're looking for early signs of disease — things like heart murmurs, dental infections, skin tumours, joint stiffness, or weight changes that you might not notice at home.

We also take time to discuss your pet's diet, exercise habits, behaviour changes, litter-box or toilet habits, and home environment. Many conditions — kidney disease, diabetes, thyroid disorders, arthritis — are far more treatable when caught early. A 30-minute wellness exam today can save your pet months of discomfort and save you thousands in emergency bills.

For puppies and kittens, wellness exams are especially important during the first year when growth is rapid and vaccination schedules are critical. For senior pets (7+ years), we recommend twice-yearly exams to stay ahead of age-related changes.

Frequently asked questions

How often should my pet have a wellness exam?
We recommend annual exams for adult pets and twice-yearly visits for puppies, kittens, and senior pets (7+ years). High-risk breeds may benefit from more frequent checks.
My pet seems perfectly healthy — is a wellness exam still necessary?
Absolutely. Animals are experts at hiding discomfort. Many conditions — kidney disease, dental infections, early-stage cancers — show no visible symptoms until they're advanced. A wellness exam catches these early.
What should I bring to the appointment?
Bring any previous vaccination records, a list of current medications or supplements, and a fresh stool sample if possible. If your pet is on a special diet, note the brand and amount.
Can I combine a wellness exam with vaccinations?
Yes — and we encourage it. We can administer due vaccines, perform deworming, and run blood work all in the same visit to save you an extra trip.
How long does a wellness exam take?
We allocate 30 minutes for a standard wellness visit. If blood work or additional diagnostics are needed, allow about 45–60 minutes.
